My Approach

Working with me starts with a free, 30 minute clarifying call to find out more about each other and provide an opportunity for you to ask me anything – expected outcomes, my background, about any concerns you may have. If we both feel comfortable, we move forward to work together and schedule a Havening session.

Every client is different. In our sessions I ask you a set of questions which begins with a bit of history taking on your background, key events or triggers etc, as well as finding out where you are at now, where you want to be, what you want to achieve. My approach is one of curiosity and respect.
I only work with what is safe and comfortable for you and I create a safe place where you can  feel nurtured and where you can open up to deal with what is needed.

I help you identify and clear out the “weeds” that are holding you back and plant in new “seeds”, that change the neural pathways so that resilience is increased.

This is all about you and giving you the techniques for you to help yourself. You will leave with tools to manage your own reactions and get rid of your alarm in your day to day environment.

Schedule a clarifying call to find out more.

How Does Havening Work?

  • Havening Techniques have been developed from the field of neuroscience and it is all about training the brain to respond differently.
  • For some people their brain has become stuck in a pattern of high alert around certain circumstances. Some situations will trigger off, what can seem like, disproportional responses.
  • This can result in issues such as: stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, phobias, chronic pain, and an inability to manage emotions.
  • Havening helps change this pattern by using Havening touch to create healing delta waves.
  • Delta waves are brain waves that are usually only recorded during deep sleep – the time when the body and the mind restore balance and heals itself.
  • When we use Havening touch to create the change, an electrical and chemical reaction takes place moving the sensory triggers to a safer place – a haven. This technique switches off the brain’s ‘alarm’ button so the area that stores trauma is no longer reacting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Havening Safe?

Yes, Havening is safe and is a great self-help tool. However, when working with significant traumatic memories, it is important that the Havening is carried out by or under the guidance of a certified Havening Techniques practitioner.

On occasions the use of Havening can result in repressed emotions being expressed quite intensely. This can be due to the bringing into consciousness long forgotten memories. This release is a normal part of the healing process and helps with the clearing and releasing of stored emotions.

If you choose to use to use the Havening Technique as a self-help tool, it is possible to experience some emotional distress and/or physical discomfort. Sometimes, additional unresolved memories may surface during / after using the Havening technique that can be perceived as negative. In addition, further emotional material may continue to surface indicating other issues may need to be addressed.

If you inadvertently experience any distressing reactions, you are strongly advised to stop using the Havening Technique and seek appropriate professional help.

Am I in Control?

Yes. The great thing about Havening Techniques is that the practitioner doesn’t even need to know the content of the event or memory. You are completely in control throughout the whole process.

Are Havening Techniques Easy To Learn?

Yes. The Havening Technique protocols and methods are easy to learn. The challenging part, which takes practice and skill, is locating where the core elements of the stressful event or trauma lie. Like all healing methods, experience, skill, proper training, and intuition play a major role.

What if a Person Feels Uncomfortable About Touching?

Havening Touch involves a simple touch of the hands, upper arm and face. As part of the initial ‘informed consent process’, permission needs to be obtained for this aspect of the session. If a person does not wish to be touched, this is not a problem as the person can self-apply Havening Touch.

Are the Results of a Session of the Havening Techniques Permanent?

While the Havening Techniques is a relatively new healing approach and has yet to be fully researched, we’ve observed that after successfully applying Havening Techniques it appears to be permanent in most cases. This is because Havening Techniques are designed to alter the biological structure of the brain. The occasional return of symptoms implies either the traumatic core has not yet been found or the problem has been encoded in a different way. In particular, addictive and obsessive/compulsive behaviours, certain pain syndromes and vasovagal (e.g. fainting) issues often need reinforcement or cannot be treated at the present time. No healing method or therapy works for all problems.

How Many Sessions Do I Need?

This will depend on the nature of the issue. In some cases where there is a clear and very specific event or memory, we can see permanent lasting change in just one session. However, sometimes when there are issues that are more deeply interwoven, it can take a number of sessions. On average I work with people for between 1 and 5 sessions.

Is Havening Techniques a Form of Hypnosis?

No. Havening Techniques do not involve a hypnotic trance. The client is always aware of their feelings, thoughts, and surroundings and participates fully in the process.

Is Havening Techniques Just a Distraction Method?

No, however distraction plays a role in Havening Techniques. Each distraction component has a biological correlate. This means there is a purpose to each action. Often clients do not believe it will work and are astonished when it does.
